It may not be Australia, but this report from our sister agency Weber Shandwick is fascinating.
Navigating Austria’s Leadership of the Council of the European Union
From 1 July to 31 December 2018, Austria will hold the six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This will be the country’s third time doing so since its accession to the EU, following terms in 1998 and 2006.
This time around, the Austrian Presidency will come during a crucial moment for the EU, with a European election less than a year away and the negotiations on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom needing to be finalised by the end of its term.
Following the Bulgarian presidency, Austria is prioritising security, migration issues and stability in the European neighbourhood, securing prosperity and competitiveness through digitalisation. In this spirit, Austria has chosen the theme“A Europe that protects” during its Presidency, reflecting the need to restore citizens’ confidence in the EU.
We hope our guide to the Austrian Presidency proves to be helpful in guiding your advocacy over the next six months.
